A university department can join ICA as an Institutional member. Institutional members are listed on our web site as a supporter of ICA.

One contact person--typically the Chair of a department--receives one set of journals on behalf of the department. That person also receives the Membership ID# and password for access to the web site journals.

Association Memberships

Associations are invited to become an ICA Association member. Member Associations are listed on our web site as ICA supporters.

Individual Membership

As of 2007, ICA has over 4,300 individual members. Most are academics or doctoral students though some are from professions related in one way or another to the field of communication research. Members are drawn from across the social sciences and humanities.

Members come from 76 countries world wide. ICA is seeking to further internationalize its membership, and welcomes new members from around the world.

Members are active in ICA in various ways, most commonly through their division or interest group membership (- informal queries to section chairs are always welcome). Some are appointed to the various committees and task forces (constituted on an annual basis by the incoming President).

Many undertake reviewing for the annual conference and/or journals.

Joining ICA is simple and easy.  Simply select the “Join Us” link under the Membership Box on the ICA's homepage. 

Membership Fees

If you are joining ICA in order to receive member discounts for the ICA conference, please complete your membership application process first. You will see a confirmation screen once your membership is processed with a link back to the conference registration page.

Please select a membership type from below to proceed. The ICA membership year runs from October 1 to September 30. New members joining mid-year receive full membership benefits upon enrollment, including online access to all previously published ICA journals. Dues are not pro-rated based on the date joined. The Wildlife Reserves Singapore operates three world-class zoos and undertakes important conservation and research programs.

The Jurong Bird Park (main picture) is the largest of its kind in the world. Its 20.2 hectares are home to over 8,000 birds from 600 species. It has four large walk-in aviaries for birds from Southeast Asia, Africa, South America and Lory Loft.

The Singapore Zoo (top picture) is home to 315 animal species, 16% of which are threatened. The zoo covers 28 hectares and it has over 2,500 specimens.

The Night Safari (bottom picture is the world's first. It is a safari park with eight geographical zones that can be explored via tram or through three walking trails. Covering 40 hectares, the Night Safari has 1040 animals from 120 species, of which 29% are threatened.

Underwater World

This amazing oceanarium in Sentosa is home to over 2,500 fishes from 250 different species!

Among its facilities are a touch pool where you can interact with starfish, stingrays and even baby sharks and an 83-meter long travellator that brings you across the oceanarium.
